Forward planning

Tonight sees months and months of
thoughtful forward planning on our part
finally coming to fruition.
While the rest of the world will wake up tomorrow all bleary eyed
and feeling jet lagged after the clocks have shot forward an hour,
the Madwoman will leap from bed, fresh as a daisy.
This is because we have selflessly been getting her into training for tomorrow
by waking her up at 5am every morning.
She should be really grateful to us, but we bet she isn't.
In the meantime, please send any spare turkey morsels you
have going spare to us: Archie has tweaked something in his paw and is
hopping around on three legs looking sorrowful. Laser and homeopathic remedies and
ice packs have been applied, but we have more faith in the miraculous curative effects
of turkey.
Waiting for turkey
Being bored because
walks are temporarily suspended until Archie is sound again

Languishing

Angel has been poorly again, doing spectacularly gloopy and bloody poops, and scaring the Madwoman half to death. She has raided the local shops for sweet potato and chicken to make special convalescent dishes ... and of course we both have to partake as it would be mean for one of us to not get the yummy fresh cooked chicken ...
It is very welcome after the supply of turkey running out ...

in the meantime we are thinking about putting "a year's supply of turkey" on our next Christmas list to Santa, to ensure that the Madwoman has no excuse for not making it a regular feature of our daily menu ...

Going cold turkey

 It's a disgrace!
Run out of turkey?
Let's hope this isn't going to set the tone for the new year.
When we wake up, we expect you to have cooked us some more ...

Partaaaaaaaay!

Well, nearly.
It is Angel's birthday tomorrow.
The Madwoman has been out and bought presents
(we saw her hiding them)
and has cooked some turkey
(we supervised her doing it)
and soon we will be going for a walk at Chiltern Open Air Museum,
where she has promised to buy us our traditional birthday muffin (too lazy to bake it herself)
We'll try and get her to take some pictures of the celebrations to post next week,
although you've seen what she's like with a camera, so don't hold your breath ...
Waiting for my birthday to start.
Hurry up.

Partaaaay! - again!

This week it was Archie's turn for a birthday - 11years old, but still not too old for a bit of a party.
The Madwoman was feeling a bit under the weather, but she managed to totter out for a stroll with us around Chiltern Open Air Museum, and then there was turkey, and of course, presents! This made Angel very happy too, as she has been waiting to get hers
since her birthday last week.
Getting to grips with opening my birthday card.

Partaaaaaay!

It was Angel's birthday at the weekend - 9 years old on Saturday!
There were walks
Looking at the tiny people at the Open Air Museum
One accidental gulp ...
and games
and cuddles
a toybox changeover

Yeah, but where's my NEW present?
and even turkey ...

Looking gorgeous. And waiting for the next round of celebrations.
I'm told there will be blueberry muffins too ...
Next weekend it is Archie's 11th birthday., which is when we both get the presents that
the Madwoman has been hiding in the cupboard.
She thinks we don't know about them, but we do. Oh yes we do ...

BORRRRED!!!!

No, we are not turning into sloths, like the Madwoman keeps saying
(Huh! She can talk.)
The reason we are taking it easy is because
Archie is on bed rest again as he has split a web between the toes on a back paw.
So no zoomies, nor even a sedate stroll round the Open Air Museum today.
Please send healing thoughts as we are bored already.
Better still, send healing thoughts AND roast turkey and gravy bones!

On our holidays

Belated Easter bleatings to you all!
We took a holiday from blogging in order to spend as much time as possible doing

snoozing

tennis ball chasing

zooming

more snoozing

lurking under the table waiting for Grandma to drop bits of
roast turkey into our waiting mouths, followed by

more snoozing.

Well, it is Easter.

Oh, and here is a pic of us with our Aunty Lisa when she visited us last week.
We like Aunty Lisa.
She understands how important it is for us to keep up our strength with gravy bones.
A lesson we wish the Madwoman would take more notice of.

Archie has a birthday!

It was Archie's birthday yesterday - 10 years old!
After brekky with a few blueberries as an extra treat the celebrations started in earnest!

A bit wet out so we got dressed up in our coats to go out.

The birthday walk.
As it was Archie's birthday he was allowed to decide which way to go.
Made a nice change from the Madwoman's usual high-handed
"I'm in charge so we're going this way" attitude.

Birthday blueberry muffin!
The Madwoman actually got up early enough to
make a batch!
Nom nom nom ...
Hasn't anyone ever told you it's rude to stare while
we're eating?
Opening my present!

There IS something in here, isn't there?

Got it!
A squeaky new squeaky tennis ball!
Just what I wanted!

Test driving the new ball.
Got to make sure it works properly ...

Birthday dinner.
With turkey of course.

Party games!
The Madwoman got out the Spinny game, filling the holes
with bits of turkey.

About to take a nap.
While keeping a close eye on my new ball.
Don't want the Madwoman pinching it and
wrapping it up again for Christmas instead of buying something new.
You may laugh, but it happened once before ...

Have you seen the muffin tin?

The Muffin Game.
Can be played indoors or outside.
Here are the step by step instructions:

First of all, instruct your Madwoman or other servant to go fetch a muffin tin.
When they return, all pleased with themselves, send them off to fetch
12 tennis balls.
When they return, still very pleased with themselves if a bit out of breath,
send them off again, this time to fetch twelve pieces of turkey.
At this point your Madwoman/servant may be losing enthusiasm as well as running out of puff.
Be firm.
They probably need the exercise - and anyway need to be reminded occasionally of their
station in life, which is to obey and serve.

Next, instruct the Madwoman/servant to put a piece of the turkey in each of the muffin tins and then place a ball on top of each.
Supervise this part VERY closely as sometimes they CHEAT and
DON'T ALWAYS PUT TURKEY IN ALL THE HOLES!!!!

Instruct the Madwoman/servant to stand clear
while you get busy liberating all the turkey.

Remember to take turns with each other ...

Santa came!

We had a good Christmas, thank you for asking!
There were presents and turkey and games ... and a good haul of treats from our dog-godmother Sarah, which the Madwoman has doled out far too miserly if you ask us.
Archie did get a bit carried away with the festive spirit and leapt on the dining table after the Madwoman had just laid it, overcome by a combination of hunger, excitement and hope that there might be some turkey up there already.
Unfortunately, when the Madwoman shrieked at him and he leapt off it, he knocked over a wine glass and broke it ... he then stole Angel's present (a squeaky rat) and later on ran round the house with one of the Madwoman's furry slippers. Well, they do look like furry toys. Good thing Santa had already been ...

Opening presents!

Angel finds a squeaky rat in hers

The rat thief strikes!
Angel ignores him and plays a rousing chorus of Christmas carols instead on the squeaky doughnut she got from her Auntie Julie. And yes, she knows lots and lots of carols, and insists on giving an encore every time!

Surprise package

We shivered our way round the Chiltern Open Air Museum yesterday. After stopping for a while to watch the Iron Age house being given a new hat by these genuine Iron Age volunteers, we moved briskly on before our paws got frozen to the spot. You can see just how cold it was by all the frost on the ground.

And then we spotted this by Leagrave Cottage. Someone had been gift wrapping a gate. We wondered who the lucky recipient was going to be. We hoped very much it wasn't going to be us - we were rather hoping for turkey, sausages and squeaky toys (are you paying attention Santa?) And we hope we haven't spoiled the surprise for anyone ...

Something fishy

Yes, something fishy is going on.
We may not be the most widely read of wippitts but we know our turkey from our tuna.
So when the Madwoman got some turkey out of the freezer for us, we were a bit baffled when we read the wrapper.
What next?
Cake from the butcher?

More birthday celebrations!

Yesterday it was Archie's turn to have a birthday.

First of all, there was a card to be opened from our Great uncle and his dog Sophie, all the way from America. We had to share it - it was Angel's birthday last week.
After carefully checking there wasn't any turkey hidden inside, we put it on display on the mantelpiece.

We went for a birthday run in the morning, then for another, more leisurely birthday walk in the afternoon. The Madwoman thought it would be entertaining to wander round the Chiltern Open Air Museum, where they were revving up for their annual Halloween Spooktacular evening. But you can read more about what we saw there next week on the 31st!

We did find some very spooky toadstools too ...

And then it was time for presents!
Angel had one too - it was her present from last week wrapped up again. The Madwoman is such a cheapskate.

I got a squeaky stuffed cow.

Angel was quite happy to be reunited with her squeaky raccoon, which had mysteriously gone missing the day after her birthday. And now we know why ...

And at last - the birthday dinner.
Yes, we had turkey!
