Destressing

Not the best start to the day yesterday.
We had barely set a paw outside when
the Madwoman spotted a massive cat poop on the front lawn.

We dragged her away from it and cleverly distracted her
by suggesting we went to the Open Air Museum
where we allowed her to watch a bit of knifesmithing in the forge

And then took her for a nice calming walk in
the woods where it was nice and cool

Trouble was, when we got home the
stinky cat poop was still there ...

BORRRRED!!!!

No, we are not turning into sloths, like the Madwoman keeps saying
(Huh! She can talk.)
The reason we are taking it easy is because
Archie is on bed rest again as he has split a web between the toes on a back paw.
So no zoomies, nor even a sedate stroll round the Open Air Museum today.
Please send healing thoughts as we are bored already.
Better still, send healing thoughts AND roast turkey and gravy bones!

On trial

We went to a trial at the weekend!
It was a Tudor court, holding three sessions each day at
the Chiltern Open Air Museum.
We put on our special smart Tudor pattern collars and
headed on down to the barn where proceedings were already in full flow ...

The Madwoman was a bit slow off the mark getting organised to go out,
so by the time we arrived it was standing room only.
The Madwoman refused to pick us up so we could see,
so we had to make do with peeking between their legs instead.
At the end we were all asked to vote, with a show of hands.
Very wippitist, we thought: no mention of a show of paws.
So we shouted 'She's a witch! Burn her!' instead and then ran away.

Stitched up again

We have skin like rice paper according to The Madwoman: we think she's referring to the fact that it tears easily.
Angel snagged herself on something last week and had to go to the vet for stitches. So we missed seeing the unicorn at the Open Air Museum during its enchanted evening last
weekend, and had to stay at home instead. And apart from going into the garden for a wee - on a lead - we can't even go for a walk anywhere ...

 Bored ... So boooorrrrrred ...
Really BORED!

The Spice Wippitts

We're a bit late posting this week. Sorry. As we keep telling the Madwoman, it's probably due to weakness from lack of food. Anyway, last Saturday we were jollied off to the Open Air Museum to have our heads stuffed with yet more history. As we keep telling everyone, never mind filling our heads, try filling our mouths a bit more often instead please.
We found a historical looking person - clutching tankards and glasses, he was also obviously in search of sustence, so we followed him in hope.

This started to look hopeful. This weeks historical re-enactors were apparently on their way to the Spice Islands via Chalfont St Giles. We were less interested in the itinerary than that here were lots of spices, perfect for creating a luscious sucking pig marinade!

At last we found the kitchen area, and got quite excited when we spotted a fire being started in a  sucking pig size tray, although we couldn't see a spit for it anywhere. Turned out all that effort was simply for boiling water to wash things in. Hmmmph. We are the Spice Wippits and we'll tell you what we want, what we really, really want ...

At home with the Tudors

It will come as no great surprise to regular readers of this blog to discover that we were taken off to the Open Air Museum in search of yet more education to fill in any gaps in our now quite extensive historical knowledge. Well, it feels like our heads are stuffed with it. We'd rather have our mouths stuffed with historical sucking pig, and thought that the Tudors at least would be bound to have at least one if not several.
Hmm, no sucking pig here, just a lot of bows and arrows and stuff. The Madwoman got a bit carried away and asked if she could hold one of the swords. They got a bit worried as she started to wave it around, especially when a strange glint appeared in her eye, and they had to virtually wrestle it back off her.
We had to pretend we weren't with her.
.
Aha!
The Tudor kitchen.
Carrots - lots of 'em. We like carrots,
And potage: not sure what that is, but we like porage, which is only one letter different.
And a capon. That's Tudor for chicken: sadly not cooked yet, and
we do prefer ours roasted rather than raw.
We sucked in our sides and looked as thin as possible,
and got lots of sympathetic attention.
Not sympathetic enough to offer us any lunch though.
Not so much as a slice of carrot.

Further education

We furthered our education at the Open Air Museum again today:
Sharpe's Rifles this time.
The Madwoman kept us away from them while they were doing the noisy stuff with the guns. We're not bothered about bangs and fireworks and stuff, but the Madwoman said she'd like to keep it that way, so we humoured her.
Even at a distance it all looked very impressive. The trumpeter sounded very professional too and stirred our blood. We managed to contain our inner dogs of war and didn't join in with a group howl, although it was tempting.
Angel did find a nice muddy patch though, and took full advantage of the Madwoman's distraction to get down and dirty wippitt-style.
Her raincoat (yes, it's still pouring with rain here) is now brown and she has matching muddy eyebrows and ears too.

The Madwoman says we should add a link to the Open Air Museum in case you want to visit too. Sharpe's Rifles are there all weekend, and there's other stuff happening on other weekends.
So here it is:
