A field trip

We went on a field trip at the weekend.
Yes, it's definitely a field
We have lots of those at home.
Why have we come all the way to Bath to look at a field?
Hang on, there's something in it.
Apart from grass.
Yes, it appears to be a Flash.
The Madwoman shrieked and yelled at him but he's going a bit deaf.
Well, that was the reason the Madwoman gave for him ignoring her at first.
But then he spotted the carrot and suddenly it was action stations.
So now you know.
If you want to get a Flash's attention,
forget all the jumping about and yelling like a banshee.
Just make a noise like a carrot.

Another day out

We had just got settled in for a Sunday morning lie-in when the Madwoman
made us get up again, telling us we were having an outing instead.
This is how it went:
First toilet break, at Reading services.
Well, we'd had our breakfast an hour before and what goes in
must come out ...
It was kind of them to provide a special dog walking area, but in view
of the number of signs around telling the Madwoman to scoop our poop, you'd
think they would provide somewhere for her to dispose of it.
Not really the sort of souvenir you want to take home ...

Second toilet break at a picnic area.
Lack of poop bins there too.

 Destination arrived!
Turned out to be Tilley Farm.
Here we are admiring the view just before taking a wee break.

Then it was time for elevenses.
The Madwoman had thoughtfully provided liver bread and turkey for in-car snacks too.

And here is the purpose of our visit: the Madwoman's horse,
who was presented with a sack of carrots and some party balloons for his 30th birthday.
We think he liked the carrots better than the balloons.
And that's our aunty Robyn you can see in the background.

A day out

We went over to Bath at the weekend to see the Madwoman's horse: she was completely unappreciative of our attempts to amuse and entertain her during what would otherwise
be a very boring journey.

This is the reason for our trip: apparently Flash let it be known that he rather fancied a couple of carrots. The Madwoman presented him with a whole sack, but very meanly they didn't share any of them with us. Serves him right that he's having a mad hair day.

Then while we were minding our own business we nearly got stampeded by donkeys.

There they are, stampeding away like anything.
It would have been a close thing if there hadn't been a fence in their way.
Then when we got home the Madwoman had forgotten to leave the heating on,
(yet another example of the incompetence we have to put up with) and it was freezing.
We had to insist on climbing into our pj's and then rested our toes hopefully on the radiator as it very slowly warmed up.

Scrumping

We quite enjoy a bit of fresh fruit and veg.
Carrots are a favourite, and broccoli is nice too.
When we can, we like to be able to pick our own: the Madwoman grows parsley on the windowsill for us to graze, and alpine strawberries out in the garden which we can help ourselves to.
At this time of year there are also plenty of blackberries, which are another of our favourites, although you have to watch out for prickly bits while plucking them.
We do enjoy the occasional slice of apple as well, but were disappointed to find the ones at the Chiltern Open Air Museum were out of reach.
Just.
We will be back.
With a ladder ...
Definitely in need of eating ...

Well come on, don't just stand there looking.
Fetch a ladder!

At home with the Tudors

It will come as no great surprise to regular readers of this blog to discover that we were taken off to the Open Air Museum in search of yet more education to fill in any gaps in our now quite extensive historical knowledge. Well, it feels like our heads are stuffed with it. We'd rather have our mouths stuffed with historical sucking pig, and thought that the Tudors at least would be bound to have at least one if not several.
Hmm, no sucking pig here, just a lot of bows and arrows and stuff. The Madwoman got a bit carried away and asked if she could hold one of the swords. They got a bit worried as she started to wave it around, especially when a strange glint appeared in her eye, and they had to virtually wrestle it back off her.
We had to pretend we weren't with her.
.
Aha!
The Tudor kitchen.
Carrots - lots of 'em. We like carrots,
And potage: not sure what that is, but we like porage, which is only one letter different.
And a capon. That's Tudor for chicken: sadly not cooked yet, and
we do prefer ours roasted rather than raw.
We sucked in our sides and looked as thin as possible,
and got lots of sympathetic attention.
Not sympathetic enough to offer us any lunch though.
Not so much as a slice of carrot.
