Cooling off

You may have noticed that it's been a
bit hot recently.
We certainly have, leading the Madwoman to
invest in a fan for us and a cooler mat.
You should have seen the performance as she first ladled jugs of water into it
and then did a passable impression of a starfish
trying to get the air out of it.
As you can see from the pictures, she hasn't been entirely successful, but
we are resigned to her general incompetence these days.

Here Angel daringly rests her toes on it.

And then tries it out a bit more.
We weren't keen on lying directly on plastic - too much like an incontinence sheet, thank you,
so the Madwoman put a fleece blanky on top for us.
Much better.

(PS If you'd like one too, you can buy them from Mekuti)

Property speculation

The Iron Age house at the Chiltern Open Air Museum
is now finished and once again open. As well as a new thatched roof,
there are new gates.
We think it just needs a Bonanza  or High Chaparral sign
swinging from the top to give it that finishing touch...

Just outside the house is what we assume is the Iron Age
equivalent of a turnstile.
And just behind it, you can spot what looks
like one of the front wheels off Fred Flintstone's car.

And in the garden next to it, someone has built a Woodhenge.
Do you think anyone will be upset
if we point out that it's supposed to be round, not rectangular?

Yes we have no sausages

It was cool enough yesterday morning to go for a walk,
so we hiked off to the Chiltern Open Air Museum.
Stalls everywhere as well as a vintage car show ...
our attention was especially caught by
the smell of sausages wafting through the air ...
We walked over to the Iron Age house, passing many signs along
the way which we kept stopping to point out to the Madwoman.

Here's another one!

And look - yet another one ...

Having worked up an appetite, we walked back, again
pointing out the signs to the Madwoman.
But she was completely disorganised as usual.
Although she'd remembered to bring the camera and plenty of water for us,
she'd left the really important thing at home.
Her purse.
So no money to treat us to a sausage inna bun.
Typical.

More hot stuff

Things to do on hot days Number 3:

Chase frozen apple ice cubes round the floor

A penny post!

It's mediaeval time at the Chiltern Open Air Museum this weekend.
The Madwoman is pretty ancient, so we took her along - we reckoned
that she'd feel right at home.

At last, an attraction guaranteed to interest any self respecting dog!
A mediaeval toilet.

The mediaeval toilet came complete with a mediaeval rat, although
unlike the Madwoman it didn't look its age at all.
No reading matter of any kind though, which would possibly make the Madwoman's
visits a bit briefer.

Then we bravely held this huge stag at bay.
We worried it so much that even after we left it stayed there, not moving a muscle.
Hope it moves before lunchtime as they're planning an archery display
around then, and it will be right in the line of fire.

How mad is this?
Just watching the blacksmith at work
made us feel even hotter, so we left.

Hot stuff

We're hot stuff  - and we're not talking about the weather this time.
Here we are, starring once again in the
August issue of
Your Dog magazine!

If you want to know what it's all about, you'll
have to go buy your own copy though!

Heat wave

Still too hot for words,
so you'll just have to make do with pictures again.

Too hot to wave a paw either!

Too hot for words

We haven't posted for a while 'cos it's just been too hot.

We've been busy instead doing a bit of this ...

Followed by a bit of this when the full sun got a bit much ...

And when it got too hot even in the shade outdoors,
we came indoors and did a bit of this ...

and a bit of this ...

It's a dog's life ...

The return

We were glad to see that Nessie has returned to the Chiltern Open Air Museum for her summer holidays.
She kindly agreed to pose for a close up ...
